The best of all worlds… with something for everyone of all ages. See you Aug 9-11!

Take Root Fest is a three-day, one-of-a-kind boutique style event that offers a fun and warm way to learn important skills folks can bring into their modern life. The festival started with the hope that, given the right environment, people would take the leap to learn these once common skills –with over 20 workshops on topics ranging from food preservation, to beekeeping, to caring for goats! Now, it’s become so much more. It is truly a place for folks to cultivate community, connect with nature, and re-learn skills of the past so that we can be more resilient as a community. We invite people from all walks of life to come out to the farm, collect and plant seeds of community, reciprocal relationship with nature, and re-skilling, and to allow them to take root in their heart, hands, mind, and communities.

We gather on the land stewarded by our family, with deep respect for the Indigenous people, farmers and land tenders who cared for this land before us here on Treaty 1 - the land of the Anishanaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the National Homeland of the Red River Metis.

  • It's like a FESTIVAL...

Take Root Fest has many of the elements you’ve come to expect from a fest atmosphere: wide open spaces, freedom to simply be, good food, good music, and well… a festive vibe! You’ll find tons of photo ops, wide open fields, forests to roam, local food vendors, local market vendors, and plenty of spaces to set up a picnic to listen to the tunes. That said, we’re not a music fest - there’s just not time for that much music when you’re busy making cheese, dyeing fibre, or cultivating mushrooms!

Which leads us to the ‘conference’ and camp aspect of this event (see right)…

  • It's like a CONFERENCE

We’ve all been there. Fluorescent lighting, perc coffee, powerpoint, and hard floors… standard conferences definitely have their place, and teasing aside, we do have our favourites! That said, we’ve given the conference concept an upgrade by bringing the learning outdoors with as many hands-on experiences as possible. At Take Root, you’ll find dozens of talks, hands-on workshops, and guided experiences to help you connect with skills of the past. Here you’ll learn under the skies, or in a tent, with your feet on the earth, connected in community with other learners. Plus, we always have an amazing cup of coffee or latte just a few steps away!

  • It's like a SUMMER CAMP

Remember the craft cabin? The archery range? The petting zoo? Never been to camp? Now is your time! Pitch a tent in the forest, and fill your weekend with skills and activities of your choice. Beekeeping, sourdough, and herbal first aid? You got it! There’ll be plenty of free time (if you want it) to hang in a hammock, nap, take a nature walk, get a herb farm tour, or visit the hens! Consider joining the Breakfast Club to talk about current issues, or stay up late to chat around the fire under the stars. Don’t miss a visit to the Tuck Shop, where you’ll find some treats, camping supplies, and Take Root merchandise, as well as a library of books to help you learn even more!
